Going Broke!

Don't you just love it when you're blogging... and then suddenly, everything crashes. Then you think, "oh, that stinks, but it's saved as a draft, so I'm okay." So you go look for your draft only to find that it's not there.
Yep, I love that too.

Anyway, I'm having a fantastic summer. Loving all the free time, late nights, and sleeping in. Except I'm completely bored out of my mind. Seriously. It's driving me nuts, and when something drives me nuts, it drives my husband nuts.

I think a huge problem is that I'm completely broke with a capital "B". Thank goodness I'll get a paycheck next summer, because this is terrible!

Okay, so I may have spent a little too much from savings on my classroom supplies. I totally could have used the money I saved from subbing to help get me through the summer.

But hey, a teacher has to get her room supplies ready, am I right?!

Here is my latest project. Remember those cute buckets from IKEA that I spray painted to fit my orange and light blue accent colors?? Well, I found out that spray painting is genius, and now I want to paint everything to match my room. So, I bought two of these basket drawers from IKEA:

Then I spray painted the pieces aqua blue (forgive the cruddy phone photo, lighting in my apartment is not the best):

Overall, I'm pleased with the results. Admittedly, the paint isn't perfect, but I don't think my kids are going to inspect it and tell me that it looks drippy, or that I missed some spots. Maybe they will. But hey, this mistakes give it character, right?!

I plan to use these baskets to store student Reading, Writing, and Social Studies notebooks. My room is pretty barren on the storage department, so any little bit helps!

My next project, if I can climb out of my pit of boredom and zero motivation, is my Writer's Workshop Pencil, Behavior Clip Chart, and a sign with my name on it to hang on my door.

I'm getting so nervous whenever I think about school starting, though. I fear the unknown, and there is so much I don't know about what will happen at the beginning of school and what I'm required to have ready by the time we start. I try not to think about it much, but it just creeps into my brain constantly.

But, it sounds like it's not uncommon for teachers to be left in the dark during the summer! I know I'll pull through!

  1. Julie-those baskets will come in handy. How much did you pay for them? Glad you and Marty came over the other day. We can get together when I come back from FL. Best of luck, Whit

  2. They were super cheap, 20 bucks or so for the frame and the four baskets.

Can't wait to see you guys again soon!
